F&O Wealth are proud sponsors of the Waverton U8 girls football team, and on a cold Saturday morning in February I was kindly invited to watch the girls play.

Now, I’m the first to admit that I’ve not historically been a huge football fan. However, I thoroughly enjoyed watching these fantastic young girls play Helsby in this hotly contested match. Standing on the sidelines, it soon became clear that these girls could definitely teach us all a thing or two, which is especially helpful to me in these, sometimes-challenging early days of setting up my business.

- Despite the freezing temperatures, not a single girl on that pitch looked like she’d rather be anywhere else. Their energy and passion was infectious.

- It wasn’t about the score, Football at this age isn’t just about scoring goals, it’s about getting up each time you fall. No sulking, no quitting, just an unwavering determination to keep going. 

- The match ended in a loss, but the girls didn’t seem to mind. They weren’t fixated on the score—they were proud of their effort, their teamwork, and the experience itself.

At the end of the match, I got to award the ‘player of the match’ and was gifted with my very own Waverton football shirt, it’ll be straight off to the framers and appearing in the background of my Teams calls very soon!
